Loft Love

I  thought I’d share some pictures of our loft that I took recently for Apartment Therapy’s Small Cool Contest. Sadly, I don’t think our place was chosen for the contest, although the deadline for submissions isn’t until April 18th, so maybe they are just sifting through all the applications and haven’t gotten to mine yet. I’ll keep you all posted and will be asking for your vote if I make it :) .

As for my photos, I did my best with my trusty Digital Rebel (and lack of good photography skills), but I’m hoping to have some professional pics taken sometime soon that will hopefully do a better job of showing our place.  Without further adieu, here is a look at our 766 square foot humble abode:

“Guest Log” from our wedding.

Entryway table with vintage suitcases used at our wedding.

Another shot of the entryway. With only one closet in our place, furniture that doubles as storage is a must. Theres’s all sorts of stuff in those colorful Ikea boxes.

Close up shot – some Wazzu love I got from Etsy as a Christmas gift for the Mr., a painting of the Spanish Steps from a vacation in Rome, a lantern from Ikea, and some antlers I brought home from a trip to Austin.

Our DIY pipe/reclaimed wood dining table and West Elm chairs. Check out how we made our table  here.

Target leaning bookshelf (bought on Craigslist) turned bar, topped with a succulent terrarium.

Aerial view from our bedroom/loft.

DIY pillows and coffee table decoration. The license plate picture is an Aaron Foster design on canvas. We would have loved the real deal, but it was a bit out of our price range.

The kitchen and a peak at our ‘bedroom’. I fell in love with this cabinet from Pottery Barn and was able to score it for 1/3 of the cost on Craigslist! The storage it provides in our kitchen is great and I love being able to display all our goodies :)

Just up the stairs from our dining/living area is our ‘bedroom’. West Elm bedding and our personalized gallery wall. Our bed also doubles as storage with two deep drawers.

DIY desk used as a guest station at our wedding. I recently added a couple of fun finds since my latest pictures.

And there you have it, folks. We love our little loft and hope you enjoyed checkin’ it out too!

Finger Lickin’ Good

A dinner was arranged during my visit to Austin at The County Line – a great bbq spot right on the water. The restaurant had delicious food and such a great vibe. We had a private room in the back and it looked like it could have been set for a fun and festive wedding reception. I just loved the flower arrangements, strings of lights, cowhide table cloths and the coozies used as napkin rings.

Howdy from Austin!

This week my home away from home is Austin, Texas! Had quite the rough trip here (seriously worst turbulence I’ve EVER experienced!) but I made it!! Looking forward to trying some delicious bbq and checking out what this city has to offer with colleagues who have come here from across the world.  I’m staying at the W in downtown Austin and I must say, it’s quite swanky. I think it’d be so fun to be involved in the design process for hotels, especially a hip chain like the W or a trendy boutique hotel. Check out some pics of my digs for the week…

Swanky Starbucks

Even the Starbucks in Barcelona are cool. Maybe I should just change my blog name to Christie’s industrial rustic obsession…

Cement walls and floors. Farmhouse table.

Old bathtub used as island for sugar, napkins, and stirrers.

Open shelves, beautiful tile and size arranged mugs.

Chalkboard wall.

Industrial stools.

Table with old steam heater as base and rough rustic wood top.

Hola de Barcelona!

I am traveling for work this week in beautiful Barcelona, Spain!  Ahhh…I L-O-V-E this city. Seriously…what’s not to love?!  The food is amazing, the architecture is to die for and I’m surrounded by fashionable people and incredible design.

Tonight I went to dinner at this absolutely charming restaurant just steps away from my hotel where I enjoyed incredible tapas, wine and amazing decor.

Mmmmmm

I heart lanterns.

How cool is this giant pillar covered with old posters and the crates below holding all sorts of goodies?

Coat rack with hanging magazines.

Light fixture made of old books/magazines.

Loving that big farmhouse table with mis-matched chairs. Oh, and of course those giant industrial lights and wide planked wood floors. I dream of living in an old place with charm like this someday…

Digs for the Day

The power was out in my building today at work so my *office* has been the cafeteria for the day. I love the industrial design elements in our cafe, so it’s definitely not a bad place to be working.

Globe lights, exposed lumber ceilings and pipe-like structures.

Industrial light pendants and painted farm style tables.

I want that cart in my kitchen please.

Eat.

*Wall Paper* from old cookbooks, catalogs, magazines and books. Probably my favorite design element in the space.

Ahhh…I love this machine. I now want an espresso maker of my own after learning how to use this bad boy. I’ve had 2 lattes today. Oops. Someone’s going to be up all night.

Facebook’s Colorful Digs

One of my favorite blogs Apartment Therapy is just a few days away from their annual Room for Color contest. Not too long ago, Facebook moved to a new site in Menlo Park and I have to say, our new digs are pretty colorful and have quite the urban/retro design scheme going on. I’m not sure who the lucky designer is/was, but I”m a little jealous of her job. I also kiiiinda want to steal some of the furniture for my place .

Terrariums: so hot right now.

Love that crocheted ottoman/seat.

Bright orange couch and crate boxes.

Chalkboard wall.

Turquoise and yellow is my fave color combo right now. Gotta love the mid century modern coffee table and the bright blue couch too.

Oh hello modern wood paneled wall and industrial light fixture.

Not sure if these are comfortable or practical, but I love ‘em and want ‘em.

Exposed beams and that yellow and turquoise combo again.
